Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has lavished praise on Rohit Sharma’s selfless mindset in the wake of Day 4 of the Test match in Kanpur. While speaking on ESPNcricinfo, Manjrekar opined that Rohit has now ensured his legacy within the Indian team. Under Rohit, India took control of the game from the very start against the weak Bangladesh side, showing bold style.
The Great Legacy Of Rohit Sharma
On the penultimate day of the Test, the Indian team took up a very aggressive approach despite having lost more than two days to rain and a wet outfield, getting 285 runs in just 34.4 overs and turning the game around their way. Manjrekar commented that this is a ‘champion’s mentality’, something Rohit has brought into this team.
“This is the legacy that Rohit Sharma will leave behind as captain. This is how he thinks. A strong team, which is one of the top two sides in the world, they also showed the champion’s approach, realising so much time has been lost. And he leads by example, exactly how he did in the 50-overs World Cup. So, this is what Rohit Sharma will leave behind as his contribution to Indian cricket,” Manjrekar said on ESPNcricinfo.
Rohit Sharma Keeps The Team Above His Personal Success
Manjrekar mentioned about Rohit Sharma’s legacy and emphasized the fact that the Indian captain cares more about winning matches for the country’s pride instead his personal glory.
“You do something only for the team and play to win. He does not mind in the process, like in the 50-overs World Cup… He didn’t get a big hundred on anything like that. Even here, was quite happy to put his wicket on the line and suddenly we have a Test match which India could win. You have to applaud Rohit Sharma for that,” the former India batter further added.
