IND Vs BAN: Ex-India Cricketer Explains Mayank Yadav’s Pace Variations In First T20I

The new pace sensation of India, Mayank Yadav first grabbed attention in IPL 2024 when he bowled over 150km/h. He was picked for T20I series against Bangladesh and in his debut match (1st T20I) he bowled a maiden over and picked a very crucial wicket. But one thing that seemed missing was his pace, the benchmark of 150 km/h that he had set. He did not reach or cross that, but according to Aakash Chopra their’s a specific reason for due to which there was a variation in pacer’s speed.

Why Did Mayank Yadav Not Bowl At 150 Km/h?

Aakash Chopra Explains The Reason Behind Mayank Yadav’s Pace Variation

“Mayank Yadav bowled his first over as a maiden – Mayank ‘Gatimaan’ Yadav. He hadn’t played cricket for four months. He was coming back after an injury. There were a few butterflies in his stomach. There was a little nervous energy as well,” Aakash said in a video on his YouTube channel.

“However, he started well and tried to bowl in straight lines. He wasn’t trying to reach 150-160 kph because there was a little more focus on the body – ‘Let’s not push myself because I am coming back after an injury’. However, there is no doubt that this bowler has pace,” said Aakash Chopra.

“He bowled at a good pace and showed that he has got the ingredients. You are seeing the ingredients as of now with which an excellent dish can be prepared. However, that will take some time and the Indian team will give him time, that’s what I feel,” said Chopra.

Mayank Yadav: The New Fast Bowling Sensation

Mayank Yadav, a fast bowler from Delhi who was picked up by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of IPL 2022 has only played two List A matches.

He was soon found a place in the North Zone side for the 50-over Deodhar Trophy; there he marked his presence with a sharp, rapid delivery that shattered the middle stump of Rahul Tripathi.

Mayank bowled at a top speed of 155.8 kmph in IPL debut against Punjab Kings in Lucknow, taking three wickets for 27 runs in four overs.

He broke his own record on his second IPL outing, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), when he came in at 156.7 kmph-the fastest ball recorded in the history of IPL 2024. He also went on to exceed the 150 kmph mark all throughout the game and finished with the outstanding figures of 3 for 14 in four overs. But interestingly, Mayank is the first player in IPL history to have been adjudged two Player-of-the-Match awards in his very first two outings.

Recently Mayank received his maiden India call-up for T20I series against Bangladesh.
