India suffered a 184-run defeat against Australia in the fourth Test of the five-match series played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Indian team was wrapped up for 155 runs while chasing down 340 runs wherein Yashasvi Jaiswal played an innings of 84 runs from 208 balls and no other batter couldn’t hold their nerves with the bat and got dismissed cheaply. However, Jaiswal’s dismissal has become a reason of debate as many Indian fans on the social media believe that he was given out controversially.
Yashasvi Jaiswal tried to hook a short-pitched delivery by Pat Cummins but failed to connect the ball and it went straight to the wicket-keeper. The Aussies made a huge appeal but couldn’t convince onfield umpire Joel Wilson. However, they opted for the DRS and the decision was reviewed. Third umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat had a long check at the replays and in the end there was no spike on Yashasvi Jaiswal’s bat in the snicko meter. At last, seeing some visual deflection in the snicko meter, Saikat adjudged Jaiswal out. While the batter was stunned, the Australian team was celebrating as it was a very big moment in the match.
On air commentator Sanjay Manjrekar made some sense of the decision and stated that in the reverse angle the ball seemed to have change its trajectory while it was going past Yashasvi Jaiswal’s gloves. He even stated that it was a brave decision by the third umpire.
