IND vs AUS: Ravindra Jadeja joins Kapil Dev in unique list after dismissing Travis Head during Day 1 of 3rd Test

Star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja created history on Wednesday (March 1) during the first day’s play for the third Test between India and Australia, which is currently underway in Indore. The 34-year-old all-rounder became only the second Indian after legendary all-rounder and former skipper Kapil Dev to complete a double of 500 wickets and 5000 runs for India in international matches.
Playing in his 63rd Test for India, Jadeja accounted for the dismissal of Australian opening batter Travis Head on the fourth ball of his first over to complete 500 wickets in international cricket, and by doing so, he completed the double of 5000 runs and 500 wickets. It is a unique achievement by Jadeja, who has been on fire for Team India in the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The star cricketer has been out of action since August 2022 and has only recently returned to international cricket with the current series.
For his superb all-round performance in the first two matches, Jadeja bagged the Player of the Match award.
The left-handed batting all-rounder has played in a total of 63 Tests, 171 ODIs, and 64 T20Is for India, in which he has so far scored 2623, 2447, and 457 runs, respectively. As far as his bowling figures are concerned, Jadeja has 260, 189, and 51 wickets to his name in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.
Speaking about the ongoing Test in Indore, India had a forgetful day with the bat. The hosts could only last for 33.2 overs and score 109 runs. For the India team, Virat Kohli top-scored by making 22 runs, whereas opening batter Shubman Gill, who came in for KL Rahul, made a contribution of 21 runs from 18 balls.
For the Baggy Greens, spinner Matthew Kuhnemann picked his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket. He got rid of five batters for 16 runs in nine overs. Apart from him, Nathan Lyon also accounted for the dismissal of three batters.
