One of the most controversial moments coming out of the Asia Cup 2022 was when Virat Kohli, after the Super Four game vs Pakistan, revealed that no one apart from Mahendra Singh Dhoni texted him when he quit the captaincy in Test Cricket. In a recent interaction, when asked if he had given Virat Kohli any advice, BCCI president and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly had quite a witty answer.
He said that since Kohli travels a lot with the Indian team, it does not give time for both to interact even though he is the BCCI president.
“I don’t get to see him as much. I maybe the president of the board but the poor guy’s always travelling. He’s on the road all the time. So you don’t get to see him much,” Ganguly said in the latest episode of the podcast, ‘The Ranveer Show’ on YouTube.
Sourav Ganguly also said the cricket is even more hectic now, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Cricket has become a bit more hectic, more busy. COVID for the last two seasons has made it even tougher because of quarantines and all the nonsense that went on. But the rewards are good, so you don’t mind it,” he added.
India did not have a great Asia Cup 2022 campaign as they were knocked out of the Super Fours after two back-to-back defeats against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. However, the one good thing to come out of this campaign was the return to the form of Virat Kohli.
Kohli, who came into the continental tournament undergoing a lean patch of form, led the charge of India’s batting throughout the tournament. Virat Kohli is currently the leading run scorer of the Asia Cup 2022, scoring 276 runs from 5 matches. However, his landmark achievement in the tournament was when he ended his 1020-day century drought with his maiden T20I ton against Afghanistan as he smashed 122 from 61 balls.
