‘…I asked for death’: Navjot Sidhu’s wife in emotional tweet ahead of Congress leader’s release

Punjab Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu is likely to be released from the Patiala jail on April 1, Wednesday, his counsel HPS Varma on Friday. The 59-year-old was serving a one-year sentence in a 1988 road rage case.
Meanwhile, the Congress leader’s wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu shared an emotional tweet on Friday, claiming that she “asked for death” from God to “teach Sidhu a lesson”. Navjot Kaur, whos is battling cancer, said that her husband’s love for Punjab had driven him beyond the realm of any attachment.
“Affirmations are true: made by a sound mind or out of your senses. Navjot’s love for Punjab had driven him beyond the realm of any attachment. In a fit of anger,to teach him a lesson I asked for death. God’s grace was waiting but with a rider,” the first part of Kaur’s thread said.
“I will give you what you have asked for but not against the will of Supreme Consciousness. So HE left me in between. Each person’s destiny and journey is different. We have no right to question it. The only person who needs correction is our own self. HIS WORLD: HIS LAWS,” she added.
On May 20 2022, Sidhu, the former Punjab Congress chief, was jailed following his surrender before a court in Patiala after he was sentenced to one-year rigorous imprisonment by the Supreme Court.
The top court had in its order said any sympathy in imposing an inadequate sentence would do more harm to the justice system and undermine the public confidence in the efficacy of law.
A 65-year-old man, named Gurnam Singh, had died in the incident.
Varma said as per the Punjab Prison rules, a convict with good behaviour is entitled for general remission.
“He is most likely to be released on Saturday from the Patiala jail,” said Varma.
