After ending a decades-long Olympic medal drought in Tokyo, the Indian Hockey Team has once again found success at the Olympics, securing the Bronze medal with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Spain at the Paris Olympics
Spain’s captain, Marc Miralles, scored the opening goal, but Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh later netted two goals to secure India’s Bronze medal. With this victory, India’s medal count at the Paris Olympics rises to 4, all of which are Bronze medals.
Captain Harmanpreet Singh, with his two goals against Spain, finishes the tournament as India’s top goal-scorer, totaling ten goals.
Earlier, India missed out on a spot in the final (gold medal match) following a 2-3 loss to World No. 2 Germany in the semifinal on Tuesday. Later today, the gold medal match for men’s hockey at the 2024 Paris Olympics will feature Germany and the Netherlands.
This marks the first time since 1972 that India has won back-to-back hockey medals at the Olympics, making it India’s 13th Olympic medal in hockey—the most by any nation.
