The blockbuster India-Pakistan clash on Sunday (August 28) in the ongoing 2022 Asia Cup at the Dubai International Stadium will be a historic occasion for Virat Kohli as it will mark his 100th T20I for the national team. By virtue of this feat, Virat Kohli will become only the second player in the history of the sport alongside legendary New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor to play 100 matches in all three formats of the game.
Kohli had achieved the historic feat of playing 100 Test matches earlier this year when he stepped onto the field for the first Test between India and Sri Lanka at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium in Mohali. Kohli is the only second Indian after skipper Rohit Sharma to complete a century of appearances for the national team in T20I cricket.
On the historic occasion, Rohit lavished praise on Kohli for completing the milestone. The Indian all-format captain hailed the ex-skipper’s ‘hunger and passion.’ Rohit expressed hope that Kohli will be at his best with the bat for the team in the Asia Cup for the sake of the team.
“His hunger and his passion are unmatchable. Every time, you see him, he comes out with a different energy. It’s definitely not easy to play 100 games for India across formats. So I would personally congratulate him for that,” said Rohit to Star Sports.
“It’s a massive achievement. Every time, you see him, his game seems to be at a different level. I hope Asia Cup will be no different. Massive player for us, without a doubt. I hope he is at his best for the team’s sake,” he added.
Virat made his debut in the T20I format for Team India against Zimbabwe in 2010 at Harare. In 99 matches, he has 3308 runs to his name at an incredible average of 50.12.
