Former Member of Parliament (MP) Ramesh Katti sparked a row after a video of him saying, “Hindusim is not a religion” went viral on social media. The video comes right amid the widespread condemnation received by Congress after Satish Jarkiholi’s remark calling the term Hindu ‘dirty’.
In the video, Ramesh Katti can be purportedly heard saying that there is no such thing as Hindu faith, adding that it is only a way of life.
a special discussion is happening on the Hindu religion. Hinduism to the best of my understanding is not a religion. It is generally a common usage. Hinduism is a way of life,” he said while addressing a gathering.
“There is no Hindu faith. It is a usage. It is a way of life,” he added.
The video was reportedly shared by Congress, in an attempt to control the damage caused by its own leader Satish Jarkiholi. Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Satish Jarkiholi said that the term ‘Hindu is of Persian origin and its meaning is dirty and insulting’.
“Where has ‘Hindu’ term come from? It’s come from Persia…So, what is its relation with India? How’s ‘Hindu’ yours? Check on WhatsApp, Wikipedia, this term isn’t yours. Why do you want to put it on a pedestal?…Its meaning is horrible,” he had said on November 6.
