Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) edged past Mayank Agarwal’s Punjab Kings (PBKS) to boost their qualification chances in the 15th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday. Arshdeep Singh’s bowling heroics went in vain as Pant & Co. defended the 159-run total on matchday 64 of the IPL 2022 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy.
Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan was all praise for PBKS’s ‘special’ bowler after Delhi’s impressive win over Punjab. Already in his fourth IPL season, the 23-year-old pacer has become a death over specialist in the world’s richest T20 league. Pathan, who represented Delhi Capitals in his bitter-sweet IPL career, praised Arshdeep for silencing power-hitters like MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya in the death overs.
Speaking to Star Sports after the match between Punjab and Delhi, the former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star hailed Arshdeep’s bowling performances for the Agarwal-led side in the 15th season of the cash-rich league.
“Arshdeep is a special player. He is young, confident and accurate. All these qualities distinguish him from the bowlers of his age. He’s keeping big players like MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya or someone else silent in the death overs and that speaks volumes about the kind of talent he possesses,” Pathan said.
Besides captain Agarwal, pacer Arshdeep was only the second player that Punjab Kings opted to retain ahead of the mega auction for IPL 2022. Averaging 36.00 in the IPL 2022, the Punjab Kings speed merchant has bagged 10 wickets from 13 matches for the Agarwal-led side this season.
“His growth has been phenomenal. Despite the presence of a proven international pacer in Kagiso Rabada, an uncapped Indian seamer is getting the recognition proves how good a talent he is. He’s going to be the next big thing for Punjab Kings,” Pathan added.
