From Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh to former India head coach Ravi Shastri, several cricketers have come in support of wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha after a journalist sent him threatening messages for not giving him an interview. Cricketers have asked Saha to reveal the name of the said journalist. However, the 37-year old has refused to do the same in the interest of the journalist’s career.
Now, the former India opener Aakash Chopra has jumped on the bandwagon saying that the cricketing fraternity should boycott the journalist. Chopra slammed the journalist’s arrogant attitude saying that he was behaving like a kidnapper after Saha didn’t give an interview to him.
Speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, Chopra said, “This person is some journalist. Because Saha has not said who he/she is, I am not going to speculate. The rumor market is extremely hot, a lot of people have made their conjectures. Whoever the journalist is, you are actually talking like a kidnapper.”
Chopra sided with Saha saying that it was the cricketer’s prerogative as to who he should talk to while deciphering the messages from the screenshot the veteran stumper shared on Twitter.
“‘Choose the one who is going to help you’ – what clout you have that you are giving a threat and telling to choose him/her else face the consequences. ‘I will remember this’ – it is a threat. So much entitlement and arrogance. Where do you get this from?
“‘This wasn’t something you should have done’ – this was the final nail in the coffin. It is an open threat given to Wriddhiman Saha here. It is my wish whom I talk to, who are you?” Chopra further added.
Meanwhile, the Indian Cricketers’ Association (ICA) had condemned the threat from the journalist and welcomed BCCI’s decision to initiate a probe in the matter. The ICA also called for the strictest possible action against him.
