On the occasion of Valentine’s Day, star Indian opening batter Prithvi Shaw was trending on social media when a photo of him with his rumoured girlfriend Niddhi Tapadia went viral. In a picture that was shared from the 23-year-old cricketer’s Instagram account, he can be seen having a cosy moment with Tapadia. However, soon the picture was deleted from the photo and video sharing platform, but by then, fans and followers of the former U-19 India captain had taken screenshots of it.
In the Instagram story, Shaw captioned the picture, “Happy valentines my wifey” and tagged Niddhi along with a heart and kiss emoji. Even though Shaw is quite active on Instagram, he has never shared a picture of him linking up with any woman ever before, and so on Tuesday (February 14), on the occasion of Valentine’s Day, when the picture surfaced online, it surprised one and all.
When his pictures started making headlines, Shaw took to Instagram to dispel the marriage rumours and called the photos fake. He shared a story in which he wrote, “Someone editing my pics and showing stuffs that I haven’t put on my story or on my page. So please ignore all the tags and msges thx.”
Since July 2021, Shaw has not appeared in an international match for India. He was selected in the Indian squad for the T20I series against New Zealand last month, after a gap of more than 18 months, but didn’t get a game. He warmed the bench in all three matches, as India preferred Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill over him for the opener’s role.
Prithvi earned a call-up to the Indian team after making a record-breaking 379 runs against Assam in the Ranji Trophy 2022–23 match for his state team, Mumbai. He will be seen in action during the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League, where he will represent the Delhi Capitals.
