Haiti President Jovenel Moise was assassinated at his private residence on Wednesday, interim PM of that country confirmed, news agency AFP reported. While the initial details are still emerging out of Port-au-Prince, journalist Michael Deibert shared a communique that confirmed that the President of the Caribbean country was assassinated by a group of commandos at his private residence.
According to independent reports, the President was attacked by a group of unidentified individuals, ‘some of whom spoke in Spanish’. The incident took place at about 1 am on Wednesday
Condemning this odious, inhuman and barbaric act, the Prime Minister, Dr Claude Joseph, and the CSPN call on the population for calm. The security situation in the country is under the control of the Haitian national police and the Haitian armed forces,” the statement read, Ouest France cited.
Associated Press reported that the First Lady of Haiti has been hospitalised. “Haitian President Jovenel Moïse assassinated at home, the first lady hospitalized amid political instability,” AP tweeted.
