Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Champions Gujarat Titans (GT) have sparked massive speculation on social media after putting out a cryptic tweet. The Titans wished star batter Shubman Gill ‘All the best’ for his next endeavour and called it a journey to remember while not giving any more details.
” It’s been a journey to remember. We wish you all the best for your next endeavour, @ShubmanGill!,” said Titans in a tweet on Saturday (September 17). The star batter was quick to take notice of the tweet and rapidly responded with a couple of emojis.
Gill was a key member of GT’s title-winning side in 2022 and a consistent source of runs from them in the top order. The 23-year-old opener played an anchor role for the side and allowed the likes of Wriddhiman Saha, Hardik Pandya, David Miller, and Rahul Tewatia to express themselves and play their natural game.
Overall, Gill finished as his team’ second highest run-scorer by making a total of 483 runs in 16 matches at an average of 34.50 and strike-rate of 132.33. In fact, Gill scored a six to seal GT’s final in the summit clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
To the surprise of many, Gill did not feature in KKR’s retention list ahead of the 2022 IPL mega auction. GT made the most of this and signed him in the pre-auction draft for a fee of Rs. 8 crore alongside Hardik Pandya and Rashid Khan.
It remains to be seen if Gill is leaving the franchise or is this a social media campaign from GT. The trading window ahead of the 2023 season will open soon after which the team will have to reveal the list of players they have released going into the 16th edition. A date for the 2023 IPL mini auction is yet to be announced.
