GT vs CSK: Opening batsman Wriddhiman Saha overtakes Sachin Tendulkar in elite list during match-winning knock

Gujarat Titans (GT) continued their domination in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 and chased down the target of 134 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to register their 10th win of the season. With the win, GT retained their top spot and are now confirmed to play the first Qualifier of the season.
In the Sunday’s fixture against the MS Dhoni-led side, GT rode on a special effort from their bowlers and a match-winning knock from Wriddhiman Saha. Saha, who had joined GT for Rs 1.90 crore, remained unbeaten on 67 off 57 in the chase. En route to his knock, Saha leapfrogged Sachin Tendulkar on the list of batsmen with most runs in IPL.
The wicketkeeper-batsman had 2324 runs in 140 matches before the start of the fixture. As Saha continued his effort, he leapfrogged Tendulkar, who finished his IPL career with 2334 runs. The Master Blaster only played for Mumbai Indians in his IPL career. Saha now has 2391 runs in IPL.
Saha has been part of different IPL teams. He started his career with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and moved to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2011. In 2014, he joined Punjab Kings (PBKS) and stayed with them till 2017. Saha scored a memorable century in the IPL 2014 final, which PBKS lost to KKR.
He stayed with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) from 2018 to 2021. It was during his stint with SRH that Saha started to face the new ball on regular basis. In 2022, he joined GT but had to spend some time on the bench as the team management picked Matthew Wade ahead of him.
After Wade struggled for runs, Saha made his GT debut against CSK earlier in the season and has been in form since then. He has scored 281 runs in the ongoing season. Wade has made his comeback in the playing XI but is batting in the middle-order. The list of most run-getters in the ongoing season is topped by Jos Buttler (625).
