Former Congress General Secretary Yatish Naik, who recently joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Goa, tendered his resignation from the party accusing it of being bereft of principles.
In his resignation letter, Naik stated, “With the kind of politics at work, I am pained beyond measure and I would simply prefer to keep myself completely aloof from all this at least till the elections. I do not wish to be a party to or involve myself with such kind of politics which is bereft of all principles.”
“Seeing the manner in which the party is functioning, I find no good reason to continue being a member of the Trinamool Congress. I feel humiliated, tired and dejected for having been made to go through all this,” he stated further.
It should be noted that Yatish Naik was one of the first Congress office-bearers, who had joined the Trinamool Congress in September last year along with former Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro and former MLA Lavoo Mamledar. Mamledar also quit the party last month.
His resignation comes soon after the party ignored his claim for a ticket to contest from the Saligao Assembly constituency in North Goa.
Yesterday, another former Congress leader Joseph Robert Sequeira, an ex-Sarpanch from Calangute constituency, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
The former Congress leader was asked whether he would contest Assembly elections from Calangute, Sequeira said, “If the party gives me a ticket, then I will put all my zeal towards it.”
However, before joining BJP today, he told media, “I will be joining BJP today to contest assembly election against Congress candidate Michael Lobo in Calangute constituency.
Goa will go to the Assembly polls on February 14 and the counting of votes will take place on March 10.
