Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut applauded lyricist Javed Akhtar for holding up the mirror to Pakistan and slamming the country for its involvement in 26/11 terror attacks. Akhtar said that the perpetrators came from Pakistan and are roaming freely here.
Kangana Ranaut said “ghar me ghus ke mara (you beat them in their own backyard). She shared a video of Javed Akhtar and lauded him for slamming Pakistan while attending an event in its own city. He was speaking at a festival organised in memory of renowned Urdu poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz in Lahore.
At the event, Javed Akhtar said that the two countries should not blame each other as it won’t solve any problem. “I am from Bombay and all of us witnessed the attack on Bombay,” he added. The attackers weren’t from Norway, or from Egypt. They are still roaming in your country, so you should not be offended if an Indian complains about this.
His response came after a man in the audience reportedly asked him, “You have visited Pakistan many times. When you go back, do you tell your people that these are good people?”
Javed Akhtar schools Pakistan
Javed Akhtar mentioned that though India welcomes Pakistani artists, Pakistan have never hosted an Indian singer. He said that even though Pakistani artistes such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Mehdi Hasan have performed in India, Pakistan has never hosted a Lata Mangeshkar show.
He recalled that when Mehdi Hassan visited India, Shabana Azmi hosted it and he wrote for the event which was graced by the likes of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.
“When Faiz sahab visited, it seemed like an authority was visiting…it was broadcast all over. Have you ever seen Sahir (Ludhianvi), Kaifi (Azmi) or (Ali) Sardar Jafri’s interviews on PTV? It was shown in India, it happened there… So the communication blockade is from both sides and perhaps more from your side,” he said.
Javed Akhtar’s comments are being widely shared and praised. Some called it his “surgical strike” in Pakistan.
