Bollywood diva and the first ever Miss Universe from India, Sushmita Sen recently announced her upcoming project Taali. In this upcoming biopic based on the life of a transgender rights activist Gauri Sawant, Sushmita will essay the titular role. A few days back, Sushmita shared her first look from the movie and has been receiving mixed reviews from the audience. While some commended Sushmita for stepping into the character of Gauri Sawant, some netizens slammed the makers for not casting an actual transgender for the role.
Now, Gauri Sawant has shared her reaction to Sushmita Sen playing her character in Taali. She said that when she got to know that Sushmita Sen will be playing her character in the biopic, she laughed and she could not believe that the former Miss Universe would play her in the movie.
Gauri also revealed that she thought some actor or actress from the South Indian film industry would play her character in Taali. Gauri told Lokmat recently during an interaction, “I had no idea who would play my role. I thought some south actor or actress would play my role. When I was told Sushmita Sen’s name, I laughed. Her Chunri Chunri song kept coming to my mind. I really couldn’t believe that she would be playing my role at first. But after signing contracts, I was convinced.”
She further added, “It is a very big thing to make a biopic, especially on the life of a transgender and that too Sushmita Sen is playing my role.”
Also, while sharing the first look of herself as Gauri Sawant, Sushmita Sen took to her Instagram and penned down a note that read, “Taali – बजाऊँगी नहीं, बजवाऊँगी ! #firstlook as #ShreegauriSawant
