For Congress’s electoral revival after ‘Bharat Jodo’ success; Kharge’s strong message for party

As the big Congress meeting ahead of the 2024 General Elections kicks off in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur, the focal point will be the age-old party’s electoral revival. For the past 7-8 years, ever since the so-called ‘Modi Wave’ began to cloud the political sphere of India, the concern for Congress has been countering the saffron party on major issues like employment, inflation, Hindutva and a sense of nationalism.
However, following the massive success of Congress’s public outreach programme ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, the party had to an extent seems to have managed to penetrate the ‘Modi wall.’ Now the biggest question is if the Congres party, now led by Mallikarjun Kharge will be able to revive its fate in the elections.
For the 85th plenary session which began on Friday, the party unveiled a heavy three-day agenda including the introduction of structural changes, reconstitution of the CWC, and discussion on issues ranging from economic to farmers and political, reported TOI.
In the opening address, Congress Supremo Mallikarjun Kharge said that the Chhattisgarh plenary comes in the backdrop of elections to half a dozen states followed by Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
“It is a massive challenge as well as a bigger opportunity for us,” said Kharge.
The coming months are going to be a critical point for Congress if it’s eyeing an electoral redemption and will set the tone for the Lok Sabha Election and the party’s standing in it as the end-year contests would include Congress-ruled states of Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan besides MP which it won last time.
There’s also an opportunity for Congress to chase BJP-ruled Karnataka where the saffron party’s downslide has become quite evident amid ongoing socio-political controversies.
