Ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, popular folk and devotional singer Maithili Thakur officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Patna, Bihar. Her induction took place in the presence of Bihar BJP President Dilip Kumar Jaiswal. Known for her soulful renditions in Maithili, Bhojpuri, and Hindi, Thakur’s possible entry into politics had made headlines earlier.
Ahead of joining the BJP, when asked whether she will contest elections, Thakur had stated that it is not her goal and she would abide by party leadership. “I will do whatever I am told to do. Contesting the election is not my goal, I will do whatever the party tells me to,” Thakur said.
While speaking to ANI earlier, Thakur neither confirmed nor denied the possibility of her contesting the Bihar elections. The singer had expressed her interest in gaining power through politics to bring about change in her village in terms of development. “I am very excited with the manner in which I have been seeing the photos and articles. I am curious, but I am waiting for an official announcement. I want to go back to my village, but if I get the authority to serve my region, there will be nothing bigger than that for me. My goal is to have the power to bring about a change. The next five years are very crucial for Bihar,” Thakur said.
