Ex-Pakistan Star Issues Stern ‘No Chance’ Verdict On Ishan Kishan, Advises To Focus On IPL

Ishan Kishan has experienced a roller-coaster year. After being excluded from the BCCI central contracts, it seemed his chances of returning to the Indian cricket team were slim. However, his inclusion in the Duleep Trophy squad suggests the BCCI might be offering him another opportunity to prove himself. Kishan impressed with a remarkable century in the Buchi Babu tournament’s opening match for Jharkhand. Nevertheless, with the Test series against Bangladesh approaching, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has advised Kishan to lower his expectations regarding a national team comeback and instead focus on the IPL.

“Ishan Kishan needs to focus on the IPL now because he doesn’t have a chance of returning to the Indian team till the Australia series. In fact, there’s no chance till the Champions Trophy. Let’s see what happens after that,” Basit Ali said on his YouTube channel.

Basit Ali also remarked that India will feel the absence of Cheteshwar Pujara during their five-match series against Australia in November. The former Pakistan cricketer noted that, regardless of the series outcome, Pujara’s previous form and performances make him a significant loss for the team.

“Be it 5-0, 4-1, 3-2, or 2-2, India will miss Cheteshwar Pujara. He is that player who can tire the bowlers and create a chance for the other batter at the other end to score runs,” he added.

Ishan Kishan has played 2 Test matches so far, scoring a total of 78 runs at an average of 78, with 8 fours and 2 sixes. His latest Test performance came in July 2023 against the West Indies at Queen’s Park Oval, where he scored 52 runs off 34 balls.

In his ODI career, Kishan has appeared in 27 matches, accumulating 933 runs with an average of 42. He has hit 95 fours and 33 sixes. His most recent ODI innings was in October 2023 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, where he contributed 47 runs off 47 balls.

For T20Is, Kishan has played 32 matches, notching up 796 runs at an average of 26. He has struck 79 fours and 36 sixes. His latest T20I match was in November 2023 against Australia at Barsapara Cricket Ground, where he scored 0 runs from 5 balls.

In First Class cricket, Kishan has 3063 runs in 50 matches.
