‘Every U-16 or U-18 cricketer would know that…’: Ex-Pak spinner slams Rohit Sharma after loss vs Bangladesh

India continued their poor form in ODIs, as they did not begin their tour to Bangladesh on a positive note, having lost the 1st game at Dhaka by a slim margin of just 1 wicket. India put on a total of just 186 runs on the board, and the Bangladesh batsmen struggled for most part to chase it. But a final wicket partnership of 51 between Mehidy Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman took the game away from the Men in Blue. Rohit Sharma’s captaincy has once again come into question, and a former Pakistan cricketer to has taken a shot at the Indian skipper.
Washington Sundar was one of the pick of the bowlers for India as he picked up 2 wickets for 17 runs. But, in spite of his good spell, he was only used for 5 overs. Hence, former Pak spinner Danish Kaneria has questioned why Rohit did not use Sundar for his full quota.
“On the field, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma took so many bad decisions. When were you going to bowl Washington Sundar, after returning to India? What was he doing, I just could not understand,” Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.
He also questioned why the off spinner was not brough on despite a left-handed tailender in Mustafizur batting at one end for the final wicket.
“Sundar had five overs left. Mustafizur Rahman is a left-hander and every U-16 or U-18 cricketer would know that against a left-handed tailender, if you bowl an off-spinner, he will get you a wicket. Sundar would have got the ball to turn on the surface, but Rohit just did not want to bowl him,” Danish Kaneria added.
After being put into bat first, India scored only 186 runs, with KL Rahul scoring 73 of those runs. Shakib Al Hasan scalped 5 wickets. India were bowling quite brilliantly picking up 9 wickets for 136 runs. But Mehidy Hasan smashed 38 runs from 39 balls, and stitched a half-century stand with Mustafizur Rahman for the 10th wicket to script a memorable win for Bangladesh.
