India decimates New Zealand to capture third T20 World Cup
Team India lifted their third ICC T20 Men’s World Cup title on Sunday night as they decimated New Zealand by 96 runs in Ahmedabad.
Batting first, India posted a mammoth 255 for 5, the highest-ever score recorded in a T20 World Cup final, on the back of a dazzling batting performance by the in-form Sanju Samson, who struck 89 of just 46 balls with eight sixes.
Abhishek Sharma (52) and Ishan Kishan (54) hit explosive half-centuries to blow away New Zealand’s bowling, laying the foundation for Shivam Dube to blast 26 of eight balls in the slog overs.
In response, the Kiwis were never really in the chase as Jasprit Bumrah (4/15) and Axar Patel (3/27) tore through their line-up, ultimately skittling the Black Caps for 159 in 19 overs, handing India a comfortable victory by 96 runs to lift its third T20 World Cup trophy.
