The 76th Annual Emmy Awards were held at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday and drama series Shogun swept 18 trophies in all major categories. The Bear, Baby Reindeer and Hacks also marked their presence at the prestigious award show. The event was hosted by father-son duo Eugene and Dav Levy, who starred in the comedy series Schitt’s Creek. It was broadcast live on ABC from the Theater in Los Angeles.
One of the major highlights of the events was Anna Sawai winning the award for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She made history by becoming the first Asian performer to receive this award. Richard Gadd, who bagged the Best Writing Award For Baby Reindeer, made an emotional speech after his win and brought tears to everyone’s eyes. Clinching the award tight, he said, “Look, 10 years ago, I was down and out, right? I never ever thought I’d get my life together. I never ever thought I’d be able to rectify myself for what had happened to me and get myself back on my feet again. And then here I am, just over a decade later, picking up one of the biggest writing awards in television.”
Amid the celebrations, Pro-Palestinian protesters gathered outside the venue and called out to free Palestine.
