EAM Jaishankar takes on Rahul Gandhi, says ‘we should not disrespect our jawans’

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, while speaking in the Lok Sabha, took on Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and said that jawans should be respected. His remark came in response to Rahul Gandhi’s statement on the India-China clash in Tawang area of Arunachal Pradesh.
“We have no problem with political criticism but we should not disrespect our jawans. I have heard that my own understanding needs to be deepened. When I see who is giving the advice I can only bow and respect. The word ‘pitai’ should not be used for our jawans,” EAM S Jaishankar said.
Earlier while speaking about the India-China clash, Rahul Gandhi had said, “China has taken our land. They are beating out soldiers. The threat of China is clear. And the government is hiding it, ignoring it. China is preparing for an offensive in Ladakh and Arunachal. And the government of India is sleeping.”
“We should understand what is happening. The External Affairs Minister keeps giving statements, but he should deepen his understanding,” Rahul Gandhi added.
Earlier while speaking at a media conclave, Jaishankar said this is the biggest-ever LAC deployment by India and is done in order to counter Chinese deployments which were scaled up massively since 2020.
“The Army is deployed to counter any attempt to unilaterally alter the LAC, that is the commitment of the Indian Army. If we were in denial, then Army won’t be deployed there,” Jaishankar had said.
On December 9, PLA troops tried to transgress the LAC in Yangtse area of Tawang Sector and unilaterally change the status quo. The Chinese attempt was contested by our troops in a firm and resolute manner. The ensuing face-off led to a physical scuffle in which the Indian Army bravely prevented the PLA from transgressing into our territory and compelled them to return to their posts.
