Dwayne Bravo, an ultimate legend from West Indies made a big revelation on Instagram, declaring retirement from his cricket career. Bravo played his last game with Trinbago Knight Riders for the St. Lucia Kings in the CPL 2024 on September 24 in the Caribbean Premier League.
Dwayne Bravo Announces Retirement
Leaving at 40 years of age, Bravo has left behind a legacy as he has been the one who has acted more or less as the driving force for the West Indies in their victorious T20 World Cup campaigns both in 2012 and also in 2016. He has the distinction of becoming a fantastic wicket-taker in the history of T20 cricket, he has taken 631 wickets from 582 games for various teams. Bravo will be there in the memory for years in the cricketing world.
“Dear Cricket, Today is the day I say goodbye to the game that has given me everything. From the age of five, I knew this was what I wanted to do—this was the sport I was destined to play. I had no interest in anything else, and I dedicated my entire life to you. In return, you gave me the life I dreamed of for myself and my family. For that, I can’t thank you enough,” Bravo’s farewell post read.
“Twenty-one years as a professional cricketer—it’s been an incredible journey, filled with many highs and a few lows. Most importantly, I was able to live my dream because I gave you 100 at every step. As much as I’d love to continue this relationship, it’s time to face reality. My mind wants to keep going, but my body can no longer endure the pain, the breakdowns, and the strain. I can’t put myself in a position where I might let down my teammates, my fans, or the teams I represent.”
“So, with a heavy heart, I officially announce my retirement from the sport. Today, the Champion bids farewell.”
Bravo Thanked His Fans For All The Support
“To my fans, I want to say a massive THANK YOU for your unwavering love and support throughout the years. To all my fans across the Caribbean, worldwide, and especially in Trinidad & Tobago – thank you for standing by me, especially in these recent weeks.
“Though this ending is bittersweet, I have no regrets about my career or this decision. Now, I look forward to my next chapter. Once again, thank you. See you soon on the other side. With love, Sir Champion,” he added.
Just hours after announcing his retirement, Bravo, who would leave international cricket in November 2021 after having represented the West Indies at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, has been appointed as a mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2025. Notably, he will be working with both KKR and the teams running under the umbrella of the franchise.
