Jr NTR’s Devara created quite an impact at the box office, collecting a total of Rs 280 crore in the domestic market and Rs 509 crore worldwide. But those who could not enjoy the magic of this big-budget film in theatres can now watch it on OTT. The film was released on Netflix today, November 8, 2024. It was initially released in theatres on September 27.
Before you sit down to watch and enjoy this Telugu action-drama, here are 5 things you need to know about it.
Not Available in Hindi:
Devara’s OTT release was highly awaited, especially in the Hindi belt, thanks to Jr NTR’s huge fan following in the northern part of the country and the casting of Bollywood actors such as Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. However, the film is not available in Hindi as yet. Sharing the update on Instagram, Netflix wrote, “It’s time for fear to step in, for the sea to turn red, and for the hills to hail the Tiger. Watch Devara on Netflix on 8 November in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. Coming soon in Hindi.”
Plot:
The film, directed by Koratala Siva, features our hero in a dual role – both a father and a son. Set against the backdrop of coastal areas, it follows the story of a village chief’s son, who hides behind a facade of weakness while secretly working to eradicate the smuggling business. The film promises larger-than-life action sequences, thrills, and suspense to keep you on the edge. Scenes, particularly those involving sea battles, showcase NTR’s hard work and determination in his role. The film also stars Janhvi Kapoor as NTR’s love interest, Saif Ali Khan as the antagonist, and Prakash Raj in a pivotal role.
Much-Awaited Film by Jr NTR:
Jr NTR was away from the big screen for two long years before this film, so the anticipation was high. NTR’s last movie was the Telugu blockbuster RRR, which earned him recognition and honors from across the world, including the prestigious Oscar awards. During these two years, NTR shot for Devara as well as his Bollywood debut War 2. In War 2, he will play the role of the primary antagonist opposite Hrithik Roshan.
Budget and Actor Fees:
The film was made on a whopping budget of Rs 300 crore and managed to recover its cost within the first week itself. According to a report by Financial Express, the actor was paid Rs 60 crore for his role in the film, which was 33 percent more than his payment for RRR. Janhvi Kapoor, who played NTR’s love interest, received Rs 5 crore from the makers. Saif Ali Khan was reportedly paid Rs 13 crore for his character of Bhaira in the film, while Prakash Raj received Rs 1.5 crore for his contribution.
Music:
The film’s music was one of its major attractions and received widespread appreciation. The man behind the soulful tracks and background score is Anirudh Ravichander, who had previously worked on Telugu projects such as Agnyaathavaasi (2018), Jersey (2019), and Nani’s Gang Leader (2019). All the songs, including ‘Chuttamalle’ featuring Janhvi, went viral before the film’s release.
