After the sad deaths of three children in the Rao IAS basement, the Delhi High Court held a hearing today. The court questioned why the SUV driver was arrested and strongly criticized the MCD for not respecting the law. The court also asked the Delhi Police several questions about the case.
The Delhi High Court questioned the arrest of the SUV driver, suggesting it was a small gesture while ignoring the bigger issue of waterlogging. The court asked the Delhi Police if they had questioned the MCD officials involved, but the police said they hadn’t. The case is now being investigated by the CBI.
Court Criticizes MCD & Police
During the hearing, the MCD Commissioner was in court. When asked about the waterlogging problems in Rajendra Nagar, the Commissioner’s answers didn’t satisfy the court. The court said there was a lack of respect for the law in the MCD and noted that the police hadn’t taken statements from MCD officials. The court criticized both the MCD and police for their ongoing problems, pointing out that inactive officials had become a regular issue.
The Delhi High Court made a strong statement, saying it can’t please everyone and must step in and make decisions if things aren’t right. The court noted that they had been asking for drain improvements since March, but their requests were ignored, leading to the current bad situation. They also criticized the lack of updates on the next cabinet meeting and the continued poor conditions.
After the court’s criticism, the Delhi Police asked for more time to fix the issues. They promised to thoroughly investigate and prove their efforts. They requested a chance to show their work, and if the court isn’t happy with their progress at the next hearing, it may give further instructions.
