Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal takes dig at PM Modi’s ‘free revdi’ remark in Gujarat: ‘Am I doing wrong by providing free education?’

Delhi Chief Minister and national convener of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Arvind Kejriwal  took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘free revdi’ remark.
Kejriwal, who is on a two-day visit to Gujarat as part of his campaign ahead of the upcoming state Assembly elections, said, “There is much buzz about ‘free revdi’ these days.”
“We have transformed Delhi government schools. Hundreds of students have cleared IIT and NEET exams this year. Students speak impeccable English. Am I doing wrong by providing free education?” asked Kejriwal.
Last month, PM Modi denounced those who resorted to collecting votes by distributing “free revdi” (sweets) implying freebies given by political parties, a practice he said has to be removed from the country’s politics.
Addressing a gathering after the inauguration of the Bundelkhand Expressway in Uttar Pradesh on July 16, the prime minister said, “This Revdi culture is very dangerous for the development of the country. Those with Revadi culture will never build new expressways, new airports or defence corridors for you. Together we have to defeat this thinking, remove Revdi culture from the politics of the country.”
He further said that the double-engine governments of the BJP in the states and the Centre are not resorting to “shortcuts of distributing the free revdi”, but “working hard to improve the future of the state”.
After a massive victory in the Punjab Assembly polls earlier this year, the AAP is making efforts towards expanding its footprint in other states, including Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
As a part of this, Kejriwal visited Gujarat. During the two-day visit, Kejriwal will announce third guarantee for the people of the state, which the party will implement after coming to power, the Gujarat AAP said in a statement.
During his earlier visits, Kejriwal had announced what his party claimed were guarantees like free power till 300 units as well as monthly unemployment allowance for the state’s youth.
