The Indian table tennis contingent have added another feather to their cap at the Commonwealth Games 2022. This time, it is veteran table tennis player Sharath Kamal who won a historic gold medal at the event in Birmingham. He defeated World No. 15 England’s Liam Pitchford in the final to win what is his 13th medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Sharath Kamal is now India’s second-most successful athlete in the Commonwealth Games, behind shooter Jaspal Rana who has 15 medals to his name. This is also Sharath Kamal’s second men’s singles gold medal, having won it back in the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
This is also the 40-year-old paddler’s fourth medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022. He was part of the men’s team that won the gold medal. He won another gold in the mixed doubles category with Sreeja Akula. He also won a silver medal in the men’s doubles category alongside Sathiyan Gnanasekaran.
