Cristiano Ronaldo kicks bottle in anger after fans chant ‘Messi Messi’ during Saudi Pro League match

Cristiano Ronaldo had a forgetful day on Thursday (March 9) as his side Al Nassr suffered a close 0-1 defeat against Al-Ittihad during the Saudi Professional League match, which was played at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah. The defeat in the top-of-the-table clash against Al-Ittihad knocked Al Nassr from the pole position in the league table as well. They now sit in second place in the 16-team league table with 46 points from 20 games.
Al Nassr was coming into this match on the back of winning four back-to-back matches, but they failed to get the better of Al Ittihad at their home ground. Ronaldo, who was in red-hot form after initially taking time to settle in Saudi Arabia, was left frustrated at the team’s disappointing show, and to make matters worse, after Al Nassr suffered a defeat, rivals fans mocked him by chanting his long-time on-field rival Lionel Messi’s name.
Several videos of fans chanting “Messi Messi” to mock Ronaldo have gone viral on social media platforms. And in one video that is catching fans’ attention, Ronaldo can be seen kicking a water bottle in anger after his team’s disappointing show and the fans’ evil chants that were targeted at him.
Ronaldo, who has won five Ballon d’Or awards during his time in Europe, moved to Saudi Arabia in December last year. He signed a two and a half-year deal with the Saudi club, which was worth 200 million euros per year.
On the other hand, Messi still plies his trade in Europe and represents French club Paris Saint-Germain. The ongoing week has been a forgetful one for Messi as well, as his side suffered a humiliating exit from the UEFA Champions League. The Ligue 1 leaders were beaten by Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich over two legs in the Round of 16 match of the ongoing CL season.
