COVID-19 positive KL Rahul not ruled out of West Indies series yet: Report

Team India suffered a big blow after BCCI president Sourav Ganguly announced that KL Rahul has tested positive for COVID-19. The opening batsman has been a key member of the national side for a while now and he is a premier batsman in T20Is.
Rahul was set to make his comeback in the series but he is now in doubt for the fixtures. But it’s not over for him yet. As per a report in mid-day, the India vice-captain hasn’t been ruled out of the series. The T20I series starts on July 29 and there could be a case that he might get fit for that.
The last two T20Is of the series, to be played on August 6 and 7, are slated to be played in USA and Rahul might be part of those games if fit. The COVID-19 situation has improved in India and a person testing positive doesn’t have to spend 14 days in isolation. Hence, Rahul could be available for a part of the series if he recovers in time.
The 30-year-old has been away from the game since IPL 2022. He was to make his T20I captaincy debut against South Africa in June but was ruled out due to a groin injury. Rahul travelled to Germany for a surgery and is recovering from it at NCA.
Rahul was named in the T20I squad but would have only landed in the Caribbean islands after proving his fitness. It remains to be seen if he can recover in time to play his part in the series.
In another update, Ravindra Jadeja is doubtful for the ODI series due to a knee issue. As per Cricbuzz, the star all-rounder could be rested for the 50-over matches. He is likely to be available for T20Is.
