Prices of commercial Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) or cooking cylinder prices were increased by oil marketing companies (OMCs) on Sunday, January 1, 2023, with immediate effect. Prices of commercial LPG cylinders have been increased by Rs 25 per cylinder on the first day of New Year 2023.
The hike implemented today on LPG is applicable to commercial cylinders of 19-Kg capacity only; however, domestic LPG costs remain unchanged.
The price hike on commercial cylinders will pinch the pocket of those who dine out frequently in restaurants as eatery owners are likely to pass on the increased costs to customers.
A commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi costs Rs 1,769 from Sunday, January 1, 2023. In Mumbai, the 19-Kg cylinder now costs Rs 1,721; In Mumbai, the increased price is Rs 1,870 and Rs 1,971 in Chennai.
The development comes after a series of price reductions implemented by OMCs in the past few months.
In November 2022, commercial LPG cylinders were made cheaper by across New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai by Rs 115.50. In September and October too, OMCs slashed commercial LPG prices by Rs 91.50 and Rs 25.50 respectively.
Commercial LPG prices have been slashed 7 times since June 2022, by Rs 610 per cylinder. OMCs increased the commercial LPG prices last time on July 6, 2022.
In 2022, these cylinders were made dearer only four times, First by Rs 50 in March, then two more times by Rs 50, Rs 3.50 in May, and then in July.
