There is barely an international team in cricket that has the same amount of loyal and devoted supporters as Team India in world cricket. The fanbase is renowned to fill up stadiums across the globe to cheer for their team with unrivaled passion.
While the wins are celebrated like a festival in the nation, the defeats end up hurting that much more. After India’s 10-wicket loss to England in the semi-final at the Adelaide Oval, there is understandable sadness and anger among the fanbase which spread to all corners of the world.
In the aftermath of the heartbreaking defeat, Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar shared a thoughtful message for fans across the country and stated that in cricket like life there are always two sides to the coin and we must be able to accept defeats if we celebrate the wins.
“A coin has two sides, so does life. If we celebrate our team’s success like our own then we should be able to take our team’s losses too… In life, they both go hand in hand,” wrote Tendulkar on Twitter.
India reached the semi-final after topping their Super 12 group with four wins in five matches. Despite a defeat to South Africa, they comfortably made the knockout stages with wins against Pakistan, Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe.
However, in the big semi-final, England outclassed them in all three departments of the game. After Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to bowl first, India put up a total of 168 on the board with the help of half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya which helped them recover from a slow start.
The Indian bowlers had an off-day as Jos Buttler and Alex Hales took them to the cleaners. The 2010 champions won the game with four overs to spare and booked their place in the summit clash against Pakistan.
