Writer Chetan Bhagat’s comments about television actress Urfi Javed’s pictures didn’t sit well with the diva. After the author’s video from a recent literature event went viral on social media, Urfi took to her Instagram Stories to hit back. For those unversed, Bhagat had said, “Humara youth hai jo bistaron mein ghus ke Urfi Javed ki photos dekh rha hai.”
A day after Urfi shared sharp notes slamming Chetan, the latter took to social media to address the controversy. Without directly naming Urfi, he said that he was not criticising her.
CHETAN BHAGAT’S TWEET
On Saturday, Urfi shared screenshots of WhatsApp chats which were leaked during the #MeToo movement. Confused netizens assumed that the chats shared by the Bigg Boss OTT fame were her texts with the author. In his tweet, he shared a clarification.
He wrote: “Have never spoken to/chatted with/met/ known someone where it’s being spread that I have done so. It’s fake. a lie.” The writer further added, “Also a Non-issue. Haven’t criticised anyone. And I also think there’s nothing wrong in telling people to stop wasting time on Instagram and focus on fitness and career.”
WHAT URFI HAD TO SAY
After sharing screenshots to call out the #MeeToo accused author, Urfi penned a note on her IG Story. Tagging him, she wrote, “Stop promoting rape culture you sickos out there! Blaming a woman’s clothes for the behaviour of men is so 80’s mr @chetanbhagat. Who was distracting you when you msged girls half of your age? Always blame the opposite gender, never accept your own shortcomings or faults! People like you are misguiding the youth not me. Encouraging men to put the blame on the women or her clothing when they are at fault.”
TWITTER REACTS
Today, Urfi’s name reached Twitter’s trending tab as netizens came out in support of her. Several Twitter users lauded Urfi for giving it back to Chetan. Some even shared memes to take jibes at the writer.
A tweet read: “I might not like #urfijaved ‘s fashion personally but the way that woman absolutely destroyed Chetan Bhagat. Full points. Mazza aa gaya. More power to you Queen.”
Another netizen wrote, “I actually think #urfijaved is so relevant right now. she is fearless and calling out predators. let’s take a moment to applaud her for giving Chetan bhagat a slap back.”
