The ongoing dispute between BCCI vs PCB over the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 might portend wide-reaching consequences, which could endanger India’s 2036 Olympic bid and perhaps even affect the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Set to be held in Pakistan, the tournament has become a source of huge tension between two cricketing giants. The BCCI didn’t agree for its team to travel to Pakistan and instead proposed that the Champions Trophy be held in a hybrid model, with some of the games played in neutral venues. However, the PCB has remained firm on staging the entire tournament in Pakistan.
No India-Pakistan Events In Future?
Meanwhile, the Pakistan government has accused India for mixing sports and politics. That led to discussions about potential consequences after India’s strong stance to not travel to Pakistan. Sources in Geo News report that Pakistan is considering boycotting India in future international sporting events, including the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The Sport was added to the Olympic Games to boost marketability and increase broadcast revenues from the Indian subcontinent, so India’s participation is crucial.
“We will not participate in any event against India unless they agree to play in Pakistan,” the government source revealed.
Pakistan Likely To Oppose India’s 2036 Olympics Bid
The report further says that the Pakistan will also actively lobby against hosting the Olympics in 2036 to India. India is one of the world’s nations pursuing the same event with Hungary, Istanbul, Indonesia, Chile, South Korea, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. The international Olympic Committee (IOC) has yet to fix any timeline, although the host city may be announced as early as in 2026. According to plan, if the row between the two cricket boards continues, then Pakistan will convey the issue formally with the IOC, blaming India for allowing political factors to dominate sporting relations with Pakistan, especially relating to cricket.
Uncertainty Over Champions Trophy Schedule
Meanwhile, the uncertainty regarding the schedule of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 continues to persist since the ICC is still striving for a consensus. This schedule, which was meant to be released this week, has now been put on the back-burner as the cricket governing body is trying to find a resolution between the warring boards.
