Fans are absolutely gutted and upset as FC Barcelona’s campaign in the Champions League starts with a disappointing 2-1 loss against AS Monaco. Blaugrana’s performance in La Liga has been phenomenal so far securing all 15 points in 5 matches. They set up a high bar for even themselves with 17 goals in and conceding just 4 in La Liga just to disappoint at the UCL opener.
An error by Ter Stagen forced Eric Garcia to commit a foul which resulted him a red card in just 9 minutes into the game. 10 men Barcelona struggled to keep up pace for the remainder of the match.
On the contrary, we can say that Manaco didn’t play exceptional it’s the visiting team digging their own grave.
Whom To Blame?
Are we expecting too much from FC Barcelona from just five matches in the league? Or individual errors costing them the game. Ter Stegen seemed to be the biggest issue to Barca throughout the game. The German keeper’s poor ball in the centre caused Garcia’s red card. In some intervals, he even struggled to clear easy balls making an overall impact on the team’s performance.
The other side of the results comes down to the number of unavailable players in Barca’s squad. Players like Frankie De Jong, Gavi, Aroujo and Marc Bernal have been out injured. Flick had a very limited benched player to act as a super-sub. Later in the match the substitutes were young prospect from La Masia.
