A special court in Kolkata has permitted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a lie detector test on Dr. Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, as part of the investigation into the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor. The court also approved polygraph tests for four other doctors who were with the victim on the night of the crime and had dinner with her.
The CBI stated that the polygraph tests are necessary to verify the truthfulness of statements given by these individuals as part of the investigation.
Dr. Ghosh’s Transfer Revoked Amid Protests
Dr. Ghosh had resigned from his position on August 12, shortly after the incident, and his transfer to the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital was revoked on Wednesday amid widespread protests. The victim’s body was discovered in the hospital’s seminar hall on August 9, sparking national outrage and intensifying calls for justice.
Ghosh has been accused of viciously assaulting his wife only 14 days after she underwent a Caesarean section. Neighbors from his former Barasat residence recalled the harrowing incident, which is said to have taken place nearly 12 years ago.
