Former Uttarakhand chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat on Wednesday exuded confidence that his party will form government in Uttarakhand in the 2022 Assembly elections.
Speaking to Times Now Navbharat’s Editor-in-Chief Navika Kumar, Rawat, who is also Congress campaign head for poll-bound Uttarakhand, said that whoever will get the support of people of the state the party, will be the party’s chief ministerial face.
The senior leader also asserted that Congress will wrest power from the BJP in all states by 2024 and subsequently party leader Rahul Gandhi will become the Prime Minister.
“Whoever will get the support of people of the state, will be the CM face of Congress for the upcoming Assembly polls. In small states, people give importance to their leader along with the party,” Rawat said.
“If we want to dislodge BJP, then we have to ensure strong leadership in states and defeat them. If we defeat them in Uttarakhand, we can also oust them from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh… We will win the Uttarakhand Assembly polls and by 2024 we will register victory in all BJP-ruled states and Rahul Gandhi will become Prime Minister,” he added.
He also hit out at the ruling government at the Centre, alleging that it has deployed its “crocodiles – ED, CBI,” to swallow opposition.
Commenting on his cryptic tweet about party leadership, Rawat said, “When the time comes, I will share it with everyone.”
Earlier today, Rawat alleged non-cooperation from his organisation and said he sometimes feels it is time for him to rest.
In a series of tweets in Hindi, Rawat said, “Isn’t it strange that the organisational structure at most places, instead of extending a helping hand, is standing with its head turned away or playing a negative role at a time when I have to swim across the ocean of elections.”
“The powers that be have left crocodiles here. People on whose orders I have to swim, their nominees are tying up my hands and feet,” he said.
“I am filled with thoughts. A voice from within sometimes tells me it is enough Harish Rawat, you have swam long, it is time to rest. I am in a dilemma. The New Year may show me the way,” he said.
Uttarakhand goes to Assembly polls early next year and the Congress is seeking to return to power in the hilly state.
