Australia’s marquee spinner Nathan Lyon has made it clear that he would be targeting the crucial wicket of Virat Kohli in the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy, starting from November 22. Australia will be looking forward to end the decade old drought of the series. They are still waiting for a win of the trophy since their 2-0 victory in the 2014-15 season. Since then they have suffered disappointment as India have whitewashed them for four consecutive series and to overcome that, Lyon of Australia believes that bringing the curtains down on Virat Kohli is the way forward, and he is ready to take on the responsibility of keeping the Indian star quiet.
Nathan Lyon Challenges Virat Kohli
“Look at his record out here. Overall, look at his record. You don’t write off champions. I’ve got nothing but respect for Virat. I want to get him out, there’s no point in hiding behind that, but it’s challenging. Him and Smithy (Steve Smith) are probably the best two batters in our last era of this last decade. It’s been pretty amazing competing against him so many times,” Lyon told reporters ahead of the Perth Test.
Team India “Full Of Superstars”
“They’re dangerous all the time. They’re a side full of superstars. They’ve got so much experience, but talented youth as well and you can never write off that. I was fascinated by that series to New Zealand, but we’re expecting the best India that we’ve played against for a number of years now,” he added.
Lyon is one of just four players in the current Australian squad to have been part of their last successful Test series win against India nearly a decade ago. He acknowledged the challenge ahead. Despite vulnerability after India’s recent 3-0 Test series defeat to New Zealand, Lyon emphasized that the Indian team still has enough match-winners for them to turn the series around. And one of the keenly anticipated contests is what Lyon has against Kohli, as the Border-Gavaskar Trophy gets underway.
