Former India all-rounder Roger Binny has been elected the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and former India captain Mohammed Azharuddin were the first ones to react as Binny became the 36th BCCI president. Sourav Ganguly, the erstwhile BCCI president, whom Binny replaced in the role also extended his best wishes.
“I wish Roger (Binny) all the best. The new group will take this forward. BCCI is in great hands. Indian cricket is strong so I wish them all the luck,” Ganguly told news agency ANI.
Yuvraj wished his best to Binny and said that the board will benefit greatly from his experience while congratulating Ganguly on his tenure as the erstwhile president of the Indian cricket board. “My best wishes to Mr. #RogerBinny on being elected as the new president of the @BCCI. I’m sure the board will benefit greatly from your experience. Congratulations dada @SGanguly99 on the completion of your term as president!”
Azharuddin, who was present at the AGM being the president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) talked to ANI and said, “He (Roger Binny) is a nice man. I have played a lot of cricket with him and we have fond memories. No discussions took place on the ICC chairman post today, the board will decide later.”
Binny, who was serving as the president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) was elected unopposed and will leave his previous role. Binny was the only one to file nomination for the presidential post and his selection was announced at the BCCI AGM in Mumbai.
Binny, who has been part of the BCCI selection committee during Sandeep Patil-led panel, was one of the most important members of the 1983 World Cup-winning team. Binny had snapped 18 wickets during the tournament.
