The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance released its manifesto for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, just days before campaigning is scheduled to conclude in Mumbai. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde released the manifesto. The leaders asserted that the Mahayuti government will prioritise development for Marathis, outlining an ambitious vision for Mumbai. BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde was also present at the manifesto launch.
BMC Election 2026: 30 lakh homes, slum-free Mumbai
DY CM Shinde stated that the government aims to build 30-35 lakh homes, make Mumbai a Fintech hub, strengthen roads, and invest Rs 17,000 crore to make the city pollution-free, while also working towards a slum-free Mumbai in line with Balasaheb Thackeray’s vision. He further announced plans for SRA projects in areas like Ghatkopar to benefit around 17,000 people, the construction of multiplex theatres for Marathis, setting up a world-class university, providing 50% reservation for women in BEST buses, and making Mumbai pothole-free.
“Welfare schemes launched. Balasaheb Thackeray’s vision lives on. Our development is for Marathis. We’ll build multiplex theaters for them! Marathis, we’ll do 10 times more for you…Mumbai needs to be brought back to its people. A slum-free Mumbai was Balasaheb’s dream. We’re working on SRA in Ghatkopar for 17,000 people,” Shinde stated.
AI-based crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants
Speaking at the manifesto launch, CM Fadnavis stressed that the government is committed to identifying and deporting illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from Mumbai. He claimed that Maharashtra has already carried out the highest number of deportations so far. He asserted that an AI-based tool, expected to be ready within six months, would help identify and deport “100 per cent” of illegal Bangladeshis. Fadnavis also announced that 10,000 BEST buses would soon be deployed on Mumbai’s roads and dismissed criticism from opposition leaders, saying people need not worry about those who have “failed.”
The manifesto outlines a vision of technology-driven governance aimed at transforming Mumbai into a “global powerhouse,” with Fadnavis asserting that the BJP-Shiv Sena-RPI (A) alliance would integrate “Japanese technology” with local administration to address long-standing civic challenges.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election will be held in a single phase on January 15, 2026 and the results will be declared on January 16. While the BJP and Shiv Sena are contesting the majority of seats together, the third Mahayuti constituent, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP is contesting independently on more than 100 seats.
