Veteran actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mithun Chakraborty claimed that over three dozen Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislators are in contact with the saffron party.
While speaking to media, he first asked, “Do you want to hear breaking news?”
“At this moment, 38 TMC MLAs have very good relations with us, out of which 21 are in direct (contact with us),” claimed Chakraborty.
But it should be noted that Mamata Banerjee-led TMC has 220 MLAs in the 294-seat Assembly in West Bengal while the BJP has only 70 legislators. The majority mark in the state Assembly is 148.
Reacting to his claims, TMC MP Santanu Sen said, “I heard that Mithun Chakraborty was admitted to a hospital a few days back. I think he was mentally ill and not physically… The problem is that he does not know politics.”
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee accused the Central government of trying to defame the TMC government in the state.
Speaking to a gathering in Kolkata, she said, “They (BJP) have no work, their job is to take over the state governments through 3-4 agencies. They’ve taken Maharashtra, now Jharkhand but Bengal has defeated them.”
“It’s not easy to break Bengal as you have to fight the Royal Bengal Tiger first,” she asserted.
The TMC government is under fire over the recent arrest of its minister and senior leader Partha Chatterjee in connection with a school recruitment scam.
