Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel slammed BJP saying that the party always talks about ‘religious conversion and communalism’ because they don’t have any other issues. The chief minister also assured that they’ve taken apt action whenever complaints about forceful religious conversions were received.
“We’ve taken action whenever we received any complaints about forceful religious conversion. Every person is free to follow their religion…BJP doesn’t have any issues, they will only talk about religious conversion and communalism,” Bhupesh Baghel said. The chief minister attended the ‘Bhaint Mulakat’ programme in Kondagaon on Saturday.
Notably, a pastor was arrested by police in the BJP-ruled coastal state of Goa earlier this week for allegedly luring people into converting to Christianity. Goa Chief Minister and BJP leader Pramod Sawant on Saturday noted that ‘such activities will not be tolerated.’
“He was arrested after several complaints of conversion against him. He got bail but his house & places used in these activities have been sealed. We’ll not tolerate such activities,” Pramod Sawant said.
According to Goa police, Pastor Dominic D’Souza and his wife Joan lured people into conversion to Christianity by offering them cash or promising relief from long-term ailments. According to an official of Mapusa police station, the couple was arrested on Thursday night following several complaints against them.
Earlier this month, Bhupesh Baghel accused BJP of raking the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case for votes. Targeting the BJP, which is in Opposition in Chhattisgarh, CM Baghel asked why the party didn’t make Ram Van Gaman Path despite being in power in the state for 15 years.
