‘BJP conducting its election campaign through President’: Shashi Tharoor takes dig at Prez Murmu’s address in Parliament

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor  criticised President Droupadi Murmu’s address in Parliament ahead of Budget Session and accused the BJP of “conducting its next election campaign” through her.
In her first address to Parliament as President today, Murmu expressed her gratitude to citizens for electing a stable government for two consecutive terms and said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government has been identified as a decisive government.
She went on to talk about surgical strikes, triple talaq, Article 370, crackdown on terrorism and much more.
Reacting to her address, Shashi Tharoor told media, “The President doesn’t contest elections but it looks like BJP government is conducting its next election campaign through her.”
“The entire speech was an election speech trying to praise the government for everything it has done and skipping over the bits it hasn’t done so well,” added the Congress leader.
The Budget session of Parliament began on January 31, 2013, with the customary address by the President to a joint session which was followed by the tabling of the Economic Survey by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The President addresses members of both Houses in the Parliament’s Central Hall on the first day of the budget session every year. The first part of the Budget Session of the Parliament will go on till February 10. The Parliament will reconvene on March 12 and go on till April 6.
