In a big blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal, Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh joined Trinamool Congress .
Welcoming the BJP MP into the party fold, Abhishek Banerjee said he rejected the divisive forces of the BJP to join the TMC family.
“People across the nation are suffering and they need us now more than ever. Let’s keep the fight alive,” he tweeted.
Taking a dig at the BJP after joining TMC, Singh said that politics can’t be done while sitting in AC rooms.
“One has to get down to the ground to do politics. BJP’s graph is declining,” he added.
This comes after a day after the West Bengal BJP vice-president slammed the state leadership for “not allowing him to work properly”, despite holding a senior position in the organization.
Today evening, Singh arrived at Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s office.
Before the meeting, he told reporters, “There is nothing as such that be termed as the last word in politics.”
Singh, who has been critical of the Centre’s jute policy, had recently slammed the state BJP leadership for not allowing him to work despite holding a senior position in the organisation.
Singh had joined the saffron camp just ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in 2019 and went on to win from the Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat.
Earlier today, while expressing discontent with the working of the party, he said that it has shortcomings in some states including Bengal and Kerala.
The Barrackpore MP said that he had shared his views about West Bengal BJP with party chief JP Nadda.
“I kept my opinion in front of BJP chief JP Nadda and he said that he will think about it. BJP has shortcomings in Bengal and Kerala and it is upon the party as a whole how it will tackle them, being an MP, I can’t look into them on an individual level,” Singh told ANI.
On Friday, Singh said that he has informed Nadda about an urgent need to revive the party in West Bengal, adding that party leaders are only interested in social media politics and not doing ground-level work.
