The final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals got off to a thunderous start with Bollywood star Ranveer Singh and music composer AR Rahman performing in the closing ceremony. Ranveer grooved to some Bollywood songs while Rahman mesmerised the crowd with his soothing voice.
Before the start of the closing ceremony, a familiar voice was spotted on the field and Ravi Shastri was the man who kicked off the proceedings. Back to on-field commentary after 5 years, Shastri made the mega start to the league and called BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly, secretary, Jay Shah and other officials on the stage.
Shastri was once again in action after the closing ceremony and conducted the toss ceremony. The fans were in all awe of Shastri as he went ahead with his business and he was among one the trending topics on social media. Check out some fans’ reactions to his return to on-field commentary –
Since Shastri worked as the head coach of Team India from 2017 to 2021, he had to spend a long time away from the commentary box. After the end of his stint with Team India, Shastri took a break from the game and returned to the commentary box in IPL 2022. He was part of the Hindi commentary team and shared his expertise from the studios.
The former India all-rounder travelled to Ahmedabad for the big occasion and his presence behind the mic was a treat for the fans. Shastri took over commentary after his retirement and worked as a broadcaster for nearly 2 decades before joining Team India’s backroom staff in 2014 as its director.
The 60-year-old is also expected to conduct the post-match interviews and the fans should gear up to once again hear him from ground zero.
