Beast Box Office Collection Update: Thalapathy Vijay-starrer had been in the news for all the right reasons ever since the project was announced. The anticipation was through the roof, but it is yet to be seen whether the movie delivered or not.
Releasing to mixed responses, the movie still managed to mint a cool Rs 26.40 crore in Tamil Nadu itself, owing to what many have referred to as the ‘hype’ surrounding the film. While the opening has been decent, many netizens have taken to social media to simultaneously complain about how the movie failed to wow the audience.
According to film industry tracker Manobala Vijayabalan, the lesser than expected numbers were courtesy of a negative word of mouth, which resulted in fewer shows being booked in the evening and at night. Jotting down Beast‘s collection, the analyst stated, “#Beast opens well at the box office. The movie has minted ₹26.40 cr gross from TN on Day 1. 2nd best for actor #Vijay, overall 5th highest opener in the state. Due to negative WoM, the film faced a downtrend in evening & night shows.”
Of course, Beast being on the down-low at the moment could also be due to the other two giants it is facing at the box office, RRR and K.G.F: Chapter 2. The two blockbusters have been currently sweeping the theatres, with houseful shows and a massive internet frenzy.
Beast marks the first-ever collaboration between director Nelson Dilip Kumar and Vijay. Nelson rose to fame with his Tamil crime comedy Kolamavu Kokila, featuring Nayanthara in the role of a local drug peddler. His recent release Doctor, in which Sivakarthikeyan takes on a local human trafficking gang, too was met with a great response.
Many fans and critics have notably stated that Beast failed to make the same mark on the big screen!
