BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly explains how Team India can benefit from multiple captaincy changes in 2022

Former Indian skipper and current Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly feels the consistent chop and change to the leadership group has paved the way for the Indian national team to have a pool of 30 players. Team India has successfully managed the workloads of seasoned campaigners across all formats while heading to the upcoming edition of Asia Cup 2022.
The Rahul Dravid-coached Indian side is expected to give their priority picks a decent run in their upcoming white-ball assignment prior to the 2022 edition of the ICC World T20. The Indian think tank has used several rising stars to add more depth to the Indian side for the T20 World Cup. Interestingly, as many as 7 players have captained India in the 2022 season across all formats. BCCI president Ganguly has recently explained how Team India can benefit from multiple captaincy changes in the ongoing season.
“Rohit Sharma is now the all-format captain. And they play so much, injuries are bound to happen and hence they do need injury-breaks. This gives the advantage that there are a lot of new players who have come up. And we won in West Indies and in England with these new bunch of players. India now have a pool of 30 players who can now play for the national team anytime,” Ganguly told India Today.
Before kickstarting their title defence at the Asia Cup 2022, a second-string Indian side will play a three-match One Day International (ODI) series with hosts Zimbabwe. On Tuesday, all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed got his maiden India call-up for the ODI series. Under the leadership of opener KL Rahul, India will be playing the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. Earlier, veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan became India’s seventh captain in the 2022 season. Since Virat Kohli‘s departure as India’s all-format captain, Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya, pacer Jasprit Bumrah, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant and opener Rahul have captained the Rohit-less side this year
