Ravindra Jadeja has been promoted by the BCCI and given a Grade A+ contract. Jadeja has been India’s first-pick all-rounder across formats in the past few years and has been unstoppable since his return to the game in February this year. His skills and increasing stature saw the BCCI handing him the top-grade contract.
Jadeja was part of the Grade A category last year. He missed plenty of cricket in the 2022/23 season due to a knee injury and wasn’t fit for the 2022 T20 World Cup as well. Jadeja made a thunderous comeback against Australia and won the Player of the Series award to send a reminder that he is still the first-choice all-rounder.
Jadeja has once again fixed in spot white-ball teams as well and is ahead of every other spin-bowling all-rounder. The latest promotion will see him earn a salary of Rs 7 crore.
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are other players in the Grade A+ category. They were in the top category last year as well.
KL Rahul, who has been struggling for runs of late, has been demoted to Grade B. Rahul has lost vice-captaincy in white-ball cricket while he was dropped from the playing XI in the last two matches against Australia. He could also lose his spot in the squad for the World Test Championship final.
There are four cricketers who have been offered Grade A+ contracts by the BCCI while five players have been given Grade A contracts. Axar Patel is among the players in Grade A and will have a salary of Rs 5 crore.
Cheteshwar Pujara is among the six players in Grade B. The list surprisingly includes the name of Shubman Gill as well. Given his form in 2023, the youngster was expected to be in Grade A. As many as 11 players have been offered a Grade C contract. Shikhar Dhawan is the biggest name in that list.
